December 29, 2008

Mommy finally got to hold her little dude!

Jeff and I have been patiently waiting to hold Vann, and tonight they told me that I was going to be the first to hold him. They wanted me to hold him for at least
1 hour depending on how he handled it...let's just say he has never looked so comfortable in his life. I ended up holding him for 2.75 hours.
Yesterday, December 28, 2008, they attempted to take Vann off of the ventilator and give him a cpap (mask over his nose, allows him to breath on his own). He lasted the the entire day before they decided to put him back on the ventilator as he just wasn't strong enough yet!

He is really enjoying his feeds, so they have inc
reased them to every 3 hours and if he continues to do well, they will increase the amount to 3 ml. instead of 2 ml.

This morning, Jeff and I tagged teamed a diaper change, we are starting to get more comfortable and Jeff is GREAT and changing diapers!

All in all, our little guy is tough and appreciated all of the thoughts and prayers. They are working, so keep them coming.

Vann's First Christmas

 Merry Christmas!
Well, I just want to thank everyone for all the prayers...they are definitely working. Little Vann has had a great last couple of days. I think he is starting to settle down from his surgery. We had a great Christmas miracle today, Vann got his first feeding. They are going to see how he tolerates it and hopefully they can continue. He weighs 1 lb. 15.5 oz., so he is knocking on the 2 lb. mark. They did another head scan yesterday and everything continues to be stable. Jeff and I are so thankful for the good news today and feel so fortunate to have so many family and friends praying for our Vann.

Merry Christmas!

Baby Vann

Well, it has been quite the stressful last few days. Vann had to have heart surgery to close a valve in his heart yesterday, December 22, 2008. He did pretty good, but is a little unstable today as he is starting to wake up. If everything goes okay, they are going to try and ween him off of the ventilator and start to feed him within the next few days.

Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers, keep them coming, because he has a long way to go!

Vann Makai Edwards

Well, it has been quite an unexpected week. Friday, December 12, we headed to the hospital to get monitored as I was not feeling normal. Before we knew it, we were checked in and I was dialated 2 centimeters. After 1.75 days of being pumped with magnesium and laying at a decline...Vann Makai Edwards decided he did not want to be in my tummy anymore. Saturday evening, they took me in for a C-section and at 6:56pm Vann Makai Edwards was born. It was bitter sweet for Jeff and I as we knew we still had 3 months left in our pregnancy, but we were so thankful to hear the little cry as they pulled him out. Vann weighed in at 1 lb. 13 oz. and was 13.5 inches long.

We have a long road a head of us, but know God was giving us a sign. Our little man is a fighter and we know that he will do his best. Please keep him in your prayers as he needs every little strength he can get right now.

WE LOVE OUR LITTLE VANN!
