June 30, 2009

Well, tomorrow I start back to work full-time, so I thought I would update the blog as much as I could today. I promise, I will continue to keep you all updated on Mr. Vann's progress!

We have started to introduce rice cereal to him, he is doing okay...still not sure what to think of it.

His favorite thing to do his touch his toes and let me tell you, he is getting good at it. That seems like the only thing he really wants to do. It is a little hard to change his diaper when he is grabbing his toes, but we make it work.

A couple of weeks ago, Vann got to meet his Great Uncle Dave. He came over with Marti all the way from Oregon to visit. We had such a great time and it was so nice that they were able to see the little guy!

Since football season is just around the corner, Jeff and I thought it was time to introduce Vann to the colors blue and orange this weekend. He got to wear his "First Boise State T-Shirt," which is already too small. Even more exciting, our great friends, Matt and Heather got him the cutest blue and orange beanies for tailgating this year. I couldn't help but try one on him just to get him ready...and oh, he looks so good in blue and orange! Thanks Matt and Heather!!!

GO BRONCOS!!!

Vann got his first surf board! He was so excited, he couldn't wait to take it out to catch his first wave! His Grandma and Grandpa Edwards got it made in Hawaii for him. They had a very special message put on...
E ku 'u mo 'opuna kane

May this board bring you the power to live your life to the fullest. As you ride the crest of wave, may it bring you freedom, encouragement and confidence to guide you through the challenges of life.

June 21, 2009

Happy Father's Day! Well it has been a busy week. We went and saw the Pediatrician on Tuesday. Vann weighed 11 lbs. 11 oz. and the doc said he was equivalent to a 4 month old, which is great because his corrected age isn't even 3 months yet.
The doc said we could try rice cereal with him in the next couple of weeks also. Vann has been refusing a bottle this week, but has been eating great from mommy, so the nurse thinks that the little guy is probably teething. Holy cow!

Thursday, we went and saw the Neurosurgeon. His ventricles are stable again, no change. Everything looked great. The Neurosurgeon is amazed that Vann was born at 25 weeks because he is so alert and doing so well, which made us feel good. He said the big obstacle we will have to overcome is when Vann's head really starts to grow and the stint that was placed gets pushed out of the aqueduct canal. At this point some babies still develop hydrocephalus, so he will be keeping a close eye on that. He will probably do another MRI when Vann is 9 months so he can see exactly where the stint is. The doc said we can take a deep breath and relax once Vann is about 1...that is when we should be in the clear.
Vann's favorite new thing is to grab both of his feet at the same time and roll to the side , it is so cute! I will continue to keep you all updated!

Vann is really starting to talk a lot. We were able to catch him chatting earlier today. He continues to surprise everyone. His physical therapist came this week...he weighs 11 lbs. 4 oz. She is still amazed on how well he is doing.

We have a busy next couple of weeks, with 7 doctors appointments. Pediatrician, Neurosurgeon (keep your fingers crossed), Urologist, and a few more! This Saturday Vann will officially be 6 months old. I can't believe it. His corrected age is 2 1/2 months!
