Vann's NICU Journey

Jeff and I wanted to put together a little video of Vann's complete journey through the NICU. This video really puts things into perspective for us and we are just so proud of our TOUGH little guy! We thank god everyday for helping him through!

Vann is now 22.5 inches long, which means he has almost grown 10 inches since being born, amazing. Well, we have some exciting news...Vann is officially wearing a 3-6 month onesie today!!! We are just thrilled. We aren't wanting him to grow up, but we are excited about the progress he has made in his weight gain. GO VANN! Thought you would enjoy some photos of him in his ACDC onesie (which is 3-6 months in size)!!!

Yesterday Vann had physical therapy and weighed in at....9 lbs. 12 oz. I can't believe it, the kid is a monster and I love it! He had a great day with therapy and is really showing some progression. Today I had him upstairs with me and he was just talking and smiling the entire time. I am sure that I heard a little laugh?!?!!?

May 19, 2009

As you can see in the pictures, Vann had quite a busy day! It was also a stressful day for Jeff and I. We went in for Vann's head scan and then walked over to Dr. Cherny's office to discuss the results. Waiting in the room for him seemed like a lifetime. He is just the coolest Neurosurgeon, we are so lucky to have him watching over our son. Vann's ventricles are stable, which means there is no change from last time, which is great, they haven't gotten bigger. We would like to see them go down, but at this point we will take the fact that they are stable. He examined Vann and said he looks great! He is just amazed at what a nice shaped head Vann has. He said a lot of micro-preemies have boxy heads. Anyway, we will follow up with him in a month and see where we are at. Jeff and I can breath a sigh of relief tonight. Vann is just the strongest little guy, oh, and the happiest...he has lots of smiles!

It was also great for him to stop by and once again visit his friends in the NICU!!!

As of yesterday, Vann is 5 months old. I can't believe it! He is doing really good. He weighed in yesterday at a whopping 9 lbs. 4 oz. WOW!!! He gained 9 oz. from the previous week, we were so happy. He goes in next Tuesday to see the Neurosurgeon...we are trying to think positive thoughts!

I can't believe I got to celebrate Mother's Day for the first time this year. I felt so thankful all day that our little miracle was strong enough to fight through the last few months. I am so proud of him. Jeff took me out to a really nice brunch with Vann and some of our friends!!!

Vann is just getting bigger and bigger. He is really doing well. We love the fact that he is starting to actually out grow some of his clothes. He is smiling a lot more and just seems to be pretty happy. Some friends of ours got Vann his first TONKA truck...this thing is awesome! He is so excited to play with it when he is BIG and STRONG! We are looking forward to spending our first Mother's Day together! He has a physical therapy appointment this Wednesday, so we will have an update for weight and then our head scan and Neurosurgeon appointment is May 19. We are saying a lot of prayers...hoping those ventricles go down.

Only a couple more days until Jeff gets home, we are so excited! Today Grandpa Rod flew over to Boise to spend the weekend with us. Vann was so excited, as was Ally. We had a nice and lazy day. Just wanted to share some pictures!

May 1, 2009

This is a picture of Vann without any wires and sitting on our couch.

Today is an exciting day! After a week off of his oxygen, Vann's pediatrician told us we can officially take him off of his monitor. This is huge, we can actually sit on our couch with our son. If we need to run upstairs, we are able to take him with us. It is such a small thing, but so exciting!
Vann got to finally use his swing yesterday and loved it!

Vann is doing a lot of smiling these days (yes, he is yawning in this photo). This morning, I was so excited to see him smile at me every time I was a goof ball with him! Enjoy the pictures!
